Gargi is a practising artist and trained educator who holds a Masters in Fine Art. Her formal training covers drawing, painting, composition and art history — but the part she carried into teaching is the sequence: which skill has to come before which, and how long a learner genuinely needs at each stage.
That is why a Canvas & Beyond class never begins with "copy this picture". It begins with what the student can already do, and adds the one next thing they are ready for. Children who arrive convinced they cannot draw usually stop saying it within a month.
She teaches every batch herself, from the three-year-olds discovering that colours mix, to teenagers assembling a portfolio for design-school entrance exams, to adults finally making room for something they set aside decades ago.

What we believe about learning art
Talent is a starting position, not a verdict. Technique is teachable, and confidence grows out of technique — not the other way round.
Our classes are deliberately small so that every student gets looked at, corrected and encouraged by name. Work is discussed honestly, because vague praise teaches nothing, and kindly, because a discouraged artist stops making art.

Line, shape, proportion and value come before subject matter. Skip them and every later painting fights you.

Students learn why a shadow falls where it does, so they can draw the next object without a reference to trace.

A room made for making a mess
Canvas & Beyond runs from a dedicated studio space at Landcraft Golflinks — bright, stocked and set up so that students can work at an easel rather than hunched over a dining table.
- Easels, drawing boards and proper seating for every student
- A full material shelf — pencils, charcoal, pastels, poster, acrylic, watercolour
- Wall space for displaying finished student work
- Small batch sizes, so the teacher reaches every student every class
